Do hard things

You can do hard things. All of us can do hard things. How? By doing them.

The problem is, we don’t want to do hard things because they’re painful and so we avoid them. And that’s a mistake. It only results in disappointments, weakness, end of the road and no prospects. It leaves us with nothing.

Strength is found on the other side of pain. Weight training is often called resistance training. What are you resisting? Hard things. You can’t get stronger unless you do hard things. This is one of the reasons why fitness training is so important to our daily lives. Through physical pain you train the mind to do hard things. Your learn to resist and push through.

How does this work practically speaking? When you’ve consistently been training your body to fight through pain, to resist what’s hard, you grow in other areas as well. As a result, you can now resist indulging in junk food. Resist being lazy. Resist being indecisive. Resist being weak minded.

Resist hard things.

Is it hard? Sure, it would be easy to do easy things. But this is not easy, and yet you can do it. And it’s worth it.

Some call it willpower. I call it training the mind to do hard things. So choose today to get up and start engaging your body in some resistance training. Not because you want to lose weight. Not because you hate how your body looks. Not because you need to justify that donut you ate. But because you love yourself enough to train your body, and by extension your mind, for life. Life is hard, so teach yourself to do hard things. You will love the new strength you’ll find. And then?

Well, then you’ll be able to do harder things.
