I’ll start with the bottom line. You are in control. Your habits and your decisions you make every day are the key to your health. Doctors, scientists, pharmaceutical companies and politicians don’t hold the answers. Here’s the simple logic. If you want to learn how to jump high, study those who actually know how to jump high. If you want to know how to be healthy, study healthy people’s behavior patterns.
So what is it that healthy people do?
1. They don’t blame their genetics for their health (We all have something positive and negative in our gene pool. Almost everything is fixable, reversible and not set in stone. You don’t have to accept it as inevitable.)
2. They don’t listen to any experts telling them what to eat or not eat (There are too many conflicting voices in the wind causing a lot of confusion. Most of them are wrong anyway.)
3. They do a lot of research to get valuable information (It takes a long time, years sometimes, to gather good and useful information.)
4. They don’t give up when something doesn’t work (Not everything works for everyone. Don’t be afraid to experiment on yourself.)
5. They treat their bodies with care (You’ll never find us with a tub of ice-cream binge watching TV shows for hours.)
6. They don’t obsessively sanitize everything (We’ve been trying to tell the world what it’s finding out now. You need exposure to the germs in order to build a strong immune system!)
7. They have an arsenal of natural go-to remedies (Not even an exaggeration! Arsenal!)
8. They spend money and focus on preventative measures (Those who are afraid to spend money on high quality food, gym memberships, etc find out the hard way that they will pay exponentially more later in life when health issues arise and they need to be treated by our medical system. Prevention is always cheaper.)
9. They exercise (This just goes without saying. You can’t build health without movement. Period. There’s no diet or pill in the world that can substitute that.)
10. They believe in themselves (They don’t rely on others to guide them or approve their decisions. They are risk takers who shun group think.)
It’s interesting watching from the side how much we as a society get bombarded with conflicting, and many times harmful, information all in the name of science. Who are these people constantly telling us what to eat or what drugs to take? Doctors, scientists, drug companies, social media experts, etc. What do they really know about health? They are not healthy themselves. I challenge you to, instead, tap people who don’t get sick for some good and practical information. It’s pretty scary for those of us who know better, watching from the side as the society slips further and further into obesity, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse, resulting in heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, autoimmune disease, chronic pains, severe allergies, etc. All the while these same experts will say you’re doing everything you can and it’s not your fault. It’s your genetics, it’s in the air, it’s in the soil, etc etc etc and just give up so take your drugs, sit on the sofa and watch hours of Netflix. Sounds familiar?
If you’re ok with this, well then this article is not for you. Move right along. But if you have finally had enough and decided to make ownership over your body and the decisions you make, then please I implore you to pay attention and never stop. Don’t ever take your eyes off your health. Decisions you make today will dictate consequences you bear years from now. Cancer, for example, can take 20 years to grow. Lay the good groundwork and reverse the tide of bad habits resulting in bad health. Listen to the people who don’t get sick. Pay attention. We get slammed on social media for promoting things like the importance of Vitamin D. The more we get slammed, the more you need to pay attention. Powers that be want clients for life and a healthy person is no longer a client.
My final note here is this. The more complicated something is, the more likely it is false.
