Are you struggling with something that seems to get you beat? Some of you who don’t work out on a regular basis and struggle with weight or health issues think that athletes are a special breed of people with perfect health and physical fitness. You might think that fit people don’t have the kind of difficulties with their bodies that you have to deal with, so it must be harder for you. Reality, however, is quite the opposite. The truth is we all have something we struggle with and need to learn how to overcome. Dealing with a challenge can and will make you stronger physically and emotionally if you address it properly. Woe-is-me attitude will get you nowhere.
Drawing on my own personal experience I can tell you that my athletic ride hasn’t been exactly smooth. I have hypothyroidism. For those of you who know what this is know how challenging it can be. But it was just a challenge and not a dead end. I researched and learned how to deal with it naturally. Every time it threw a curve ball I learned how to deal with it or work around it. You only have one life, you can’t give up. Do what you can, do something! Research your particular issue, get informed and take control over your health.
I hear people with hypothyroidism say that they can’t lose weight because of it. No, you can’t lose weight because you decided that this issue is going to be your excuse. Go ahead and think about it for a second. Are you truly doing everything you can to deal with this health issue? Are you eating clean? Are you working out? Did you know that without physical activity you CANNOT get your hypo symptoms under control? Many sufferers of this disease claim that they take their med but still have hypo symptoms. That’s because meds is not the solution. You can’t fix your thyroid with meds. You need to get your nutrition and fitness under control and you will be amazed how much better you will feel.
Don’t let your adversity control and consume you. Overcome it and come out stronger in the end. Uncover the superman inside. Remember, everyone has something they deal with. Everyone! You are not unique. How we handle our adversities defines who we are as people, spouses, parents, colleagues, friends and athletes. You can do it! If you have a story about your particular issue and how you handled it, please write to me. I would love to hear from you. I may even post it!
“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” -Rocky Balboa wisdom
