Why are women afraid of muscle? I always hear women say they want to lose weight but don’t want to bulk up and therefore they do cardio and don’t really lift or lift very light weights. If that’s you, I’m here to tell you that you are wasting your time! You are literally not accomplishing anything. And when it comes to bulking up, unless you do drastic stuff, you will not look like a body builder.
If you are attempting to lose weight without building muscle, you will have to starve yourself which will inevitably be followed by weight gain with interest. And this is why so many diets fail. Diets without muscle building are useless at best and harmful at worst. So, ladies, please work all your major muscle groups. You can start by doing squats, lunges, deadlifts, rows, etc. And please don’t use wussy light weights. Ok, ok, maybe at first. I wouldn’t want you to get hurt! But then as you get stronger, please start loading up that squat bar with more weight. I guarantee you will love your legs. Nothing looks sexier than toned and muscular legs. And let’s not forget our back and stomach. Who wouldn’t want a strong back and toned abs?
And for the record, you are not bulking up, you are replacing fat with muscle which is what gives you that toned look (as opposed to flabby). The more muscle you have, the more calories are being burned at rest! I’m pretty sure that’s a great thing! So, workout smarter, not harder. Of course do your cardio. I love going on my runs for example. But don’t forget strength training. Not only will it help you lose weight, and make you look more fit, but it will also help with your cardio so you will burn more calories even on your cardio days. See that? Win, win! Ok, so can we now agree that these are the kinds of gains we need not be afraid of? Say it with me, Gainz!
