Weight loss – Diet vs Exercise

dietandexerciseThere are many schools of thought as to what works when it comes to weight loss.  Some people swear by a certain diet that seems to work for them.  They usually see initial positive results and it reinforces their belief that you don’t need to exercise to lose weight.  People in this category will eventually gain the weight back and will have a lot less muscle due to all that dieting.  They will end up looking and feeling worse than prior to dieting.

Others believe it’s all about exercising that gets the job done.  They’ll just push themselves harder at the gym to work off that donut or pizza.  The “exercise only” school of thought is eat whatever you want as long as you put in the work at the gym.  Depending on how poor your diet is, you will end up losing some weight but all the extra cortisol in your body as a result of overtraining will leave you with no energy, susceptible to infection and likely some sort of injury.  Bottom line is you cannot out train a bad diet.

As you can see, both approaches are significantly lacking.  For optimal results in weight loss and overall health you need to eat well AND exercise.  Together this combination creates a powerful force that triggers long lasting change in your physical appearance and internal health.  Exercising in a smart strategic pattern, without overtraining, while eating fresh, organic food that includes healthy complex carbs (oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, all sorts of veggies), proteins (eggs, chicken, fish, beans) and “good” fats (avocados, nuts, olive oil), is key to weight loss success and overall health.  Remember, you cannot exercise if you are constantly catching colds or getting injured.  So, take care of your body with proper nutrition and appropriate amount of exercise and you will drastically transform your body into a healthy and fit new you!
