The cost of organic produce is two to three times more than the non-organic counter-part, so why would anyone in the right mind spend more when you can spend less? Let’s examine what makes something organic and if it’s worth it or if it’s a total waste of money.
As some of you already know, fresh produce is often sprayed with pesticide. Did you ever stop and think what pesticide is? Let me put it to you this way. How would you like some fresh strawberries with a side of powerful antibiotics? Pesticide is a cocktail of many chemicals that include antibiotics which cause severe health problems to our bodies. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that we, as a nation, have become resistant to antibiotics when we really need them. Why do you think is that?
For one, it’s because we pop them in like candy when we get anything from a common cold to a simple cut. But also, we get them from all the pesticide we are consuming while eating otherwise healthy foods. And that’s the irony here. We try to be healthy by eating fresh produce but if along with that you consume antibiotics, you’ve just done more harm than good. Autoimmune diseases, autism and chronic diseases are ever present and on the rise. Our immune system has become weakened by many different factors but one of them is definitely antibiotics and other chemicals we consume through food.
Not all produce needs to be organic since not everything gets sprayed with pesticide. Please do your research on foods you absolutely should buy organic. Apples, peaches, strawberries are just some examples of absolutely organic.
So, what is your health worth to you?
